Katharine Hamnett: How fashion changed the world

6 October 2014, Shoreditch House, London

Katharine Hamnett CBE, is a British fashion designer and a political and environmental activist. Katharine graduated from Central Saint Martins in 1969 and launched her eponymous brand in 1979. In 1989, Katharine commissioned research into the social and environmental impact of the clothing and textile industry and discovered a horrific situation. Since then Katharine has campaigned tirelessly alongside the many charities she supports, such as: EJF, PAN and 38degrees, both in person and through her provocative slogan t-shirts. JAIL TONY, SACK PATERSON and SAVE THE FUTURE are just a handful of her catchy and thought provoking campaigns. Loved for her passion and proactivity, Katharine is considered “Britain’s number one ethical hero”(New Consumer Magazine
2006) and in 2010 was named Vogue’s “Queen of green”
