Sign of the Times: Fiona Cartledge and Jeremy Deller in Conversation with Lida Hujić
19 May 2015, Shoreditch House, London
Sign of the Times was the brainchild of Fiona Cartledge. Born out of Shoom, the night-club widely credited for kick-starting acid house, one of the most influential youth subcultural movements of last century, Sign of the Times was the place to be. Drawing in the faces and clubbers in search of alternative identity markers, the calibre of (future) talent spanning creative industries who congregated there is unsurpassed. Among them was then aspiring artist, Jeremy Deller (Turner Prize winner, 2004; representing the UK at the Venice Biennale, 2013), whose early work is significantly influenced by acid culture. Marking the forthcoming publication of Sign of the Times: A Celebration of Early 90s Club Culture (Wild Press).
